my first real attempt at doing star trails :) arrived at washington pass just after sunset and shot until sunrise..the moon was just setting behind the mountain as i started the shooting..made for a nice glow silhouetting liberty mountain but made it tough to figure out the exposure! also were some clouds rising from the right side which is what that streak is. this was one hour of 30 second exposures.

a quick but big thanks to greg.. [link] ..for his inspiring work to get out and capture the nights sky ..and doug.. [link] ..for his helpful hints and motivational work over the years :highfive:

Your welcome Addam! I look foreword to seeing the results. :) I just got a new camera last Friday and it has a built in interval timer so it should make attempting these much easier. I'm 0 for 3 startrail attempts.

I ended up settling on the D7000. I was heavily considering the new D600 full frame but it was too pricey still and I have a lot of money invested in the DX format. I want to eventually get a wide angle back but when I do I think I want to go all out and get the 2.8 glass. Thanks Addam, it will probably be awhile before I try again though.
