I got to this spot a little late in the day and had a heck of a time with the sun, but do to the horrendous trek to get to this fall, it will have to do for a long while.
50' Maple Falls is located off Stevens Canyon Rd on Mt Rainier, Washington
It wasn't the length of the trek actually but more the obstacles. It was only a mile off the trail but my notes said the easiest way was up the creek. At this time of year that's impossible with the heavy water flow, so the next way to try is walk along the creek which is purely devils club, alder saplings and when that clears you are on loose basalt chips on a 50 degree wet slope. There were spots where i would try to plant my foot in the slope and start sliding down to a 20 foot drop so had to run across the slope and hope for the best. If I ventured to far right i would of been above the fall on a 500 foot columnar basalt wall :thumb168232075: It was also challenging due to the fact it was the last section of my 12 mile hike that day.. I'll be returning in late summer when the water is down and should be a little easier.
Thanks for the comment
